I am 34 years old and have trained sled dogs since I was 12, by 14 I had my own nine dog team. Every year I spend more time outdoors working with sled dogs; it became a lifestyle and then my dreams came true. Guiding wildlife photography and nature interpretation style trips along with operating a professional racing kennel is my occupation.

I have finished the CAC250 seven times and continued to place in the top 5. I love the endless time spent training dogs to compete in such a challenging race. The Can Am is both the dogs and my favorite race, we train on simular trails and enjoy the hills.

I grew up with the dream of having my own team of sled dogs and to one day compete in this environment. I first started with the sprinters and after a few races I turned to the long distance races. Now I've aquired my own team and I'm proud of it. For me there is nothing better than going to the forest with them and feeling that we are one. With all the time we spend together we can say they're like a family for me.

This year I'm working with a young team, and I promised to show them a good time, and I can't think of a better time than the Can Am 100. I had a great run in this race two years ago, and I'm excited to be here again. I'm pretty sure we can't catch Christine with her fast and focused pointers or Rico the marathon runner, but looking at the few folks signed up as of December, I'm hoping to catch Mark Patterson. My other hope is to convince Gavin Baker to enter, heís also fun to chase. You have to have goals, right? Iím coming for you, boys! This will be my 12th year running dogs, and I haven't missed a Can Am race since my first Can Am 30 in 2012. I canít think of a better place to race than the mountains and wilderness of Northern Maine, and I am grateful for my wonderful host family the Audiberts. Thanks to everyone who works so hard to put on a great race. I live in northern NH, and work for The Conservation Fund, a national land conservation nonprofit, and after a full day of dealing with people Iím always really excited to switch my brain and heart to communicating with dogs and being outside. I am the guardian for my two disabled siblings, sharing the caregiving responsibility with my patient partner Chuck and live-in caregivers.

Other than spending time with my team I enjoy running, drawing, archery, and exploring new places. I am senior at Prospect Mountain High School, and am planning to go to college next year to study Biochemistry. What I love most about the sport of dog sledding is the bond that forms between a musher and their team. I am very lucky to be a part of the mushing community and partake in this amazing sport.

I started dog sledding with my two first siberian huskies when I was 10 years old. Dog sledding became our family sport. We were given many dog's and we rescued a couple. Eventually my parents decided to buy a farm on which we could have the number of dog's we wanted. Years went by and our kennel grew. We now have 87 dogs and they help us keep our visitors active and healhty. We do all sorts of activities with visitors from around the world who enjoy the company of dog's. I have been mentored by many mushers who wanted me to race when I was younger. Now that I have finished school, I decided to enter my first races. I did my first 30 mile race this year and my dogs did very well. I can't wait to do more...

This year Iíve decided to take a year off from the 250 and †focus on setting a beautiful foundation for the Yearlings this year.† Wether itís the 250 or the 100 It's all about the care, love & bond that you have with each and everyone on & off the trail the trail. It's about being their provider, coach, nutritionist, behaviorist, doctor and mom! It's incredible to watch them grow into amazing athletes and know that your were the one to see the quality in them, to bring out the best in them to help them excel! It's not just about the training miles it's about enjoying the beauty of the trails and the team you've created! Iím REALLY looking forward to this race. Heck I may need it even more then the team.†

This will be my second year running the Cam-Am 30. Originally from Surrey, England I moved to Maine in 2005 and quickly found 1-dog skijor as a way to get out and have fun over the winter months. After a few years racing dryland and sprint distance races I now almost have enough dogs for my own mid-distance team. I would like to thank Paula & Rico Portalatin and the other members of The Maine Highlands Sled Club for their knowledge and support to get me here.

My name is Hannah Lucas, I raced the 30 last year running a dear friend's, Jessica Holmes, team. This year I plan to race with my own team of purebred seppala lined siberian huskies. I'm hoping next year we'll have the equipment to start training early in the season to be able to enter the 100, and then the following year the 250. My main goal is to finish the Iditarod with a purebred team. Being from Virginia and most of my family being in Florida, they think I'm absolutely crazy for jumping into this, but I have no intentions of going back. I'm very thankful to have my mother, my grandparents, and my fiance David's support. This year I'm running the 30 in memory of my girl Ishka, she was my first dog ever, and my smartest lead dog. I used her to train all of my up in coming leaders in training. Her daughter Acacia will be following in her mother's footsteps and running lead on my team this year.

Twenty-one years ago I ran the Can-Am 30 with the dogs borrowed from my "mentor" Bill Woods. We came in last and second to last but had fun! Now, after a break for college marriage and kids, I am returning to dog sledding. I want to race for the joy of seeing new trails, meeting "real" mushers and to accomplish a goal. I recently adopted 4 dogs as my team of Siberians - One now close to retirement - so now I have 8 dogs and I am learning how to manage all that power! I enjoy the different personalities of the dogs, and look foward to visiting them after a day in the office.

My husband Ralph and are both here for the third consecutive year racing the CanAm 30. Out of all the races we have attended, this is our favorite. It starts with the warm and welcoming atmosphere, the community involvement and friendliness of everyone we encounter. To us, that is what makes a race! Not to mention the stunning picturesque trails! We have a kennel of 25 siberian huskies and 2 Alaskans in Southern Ontario. We spend all of our time working and tending to our kennel. We are also very active with our Ontario Federation of Sled Dog Sports, holding clinics, growing the club and supporting new comers. Thank you to all organizers, volunteers and the community of Fort Kent for putting on such an amazing event.

I am looking forward to when Piper and I are able to run together with our own teams. I love how excited the dogs get when they know itís time to do what they love, run. I also love watching them improve and get stronger with every training run. Standing on the runners and watching the dogs run on a moonlit night with no headlamp is hard to beat.

I belong to the Maine Highlands sled dog club, I was the 2018 recipient of the Leonhard Seppala award. I am the youngest musher in the club to receive this award. I'm a life long 4-H member, and have done projects in dog, horse, goat and rabbit. I got my first sled dog for Christmas in 2015, and I really started mushing in 2016. This is my 4th year running dogs, and I absolutely love it. I now have 7 dogs of my own and I hope to get more in the near future. I plan on running the Jr.Iditarod at least once, maybe twice, and also plan on running the Iditarod. I plan on moving to Alaska after I graduate and might become a mechanic or a vet tech, and of course I will continue to run dogs. My favorite part about dog mushing is being out on the trail and just enjoying the peace and quite of being with them. All my friends think I'm crazy for running dogs and yet they know that my dogs are my life, luckily they are still very supportive of me and they love to hear about all my crazy adventures. They also enjoy the free rides I give them.

I am 41 years old. My family and I have been involved with sled dogs for about 10 years. I am beyond impressed with the sense of team and loyalty my 4 legged family shows me each and every day. The last few years my daughter has found her way to the runners and has started running her own team. I am so impressed with how she works and bonds with each and every one of them as individuals and as a team, all this responsibility at only the age of 14. This year due to my change in career she has stepped off her own sled and has helped to train my team after school each day so I can still race this year. I want to send out a huge public thank you to her without her sacrifice myself nor these wonderful animals would have been able to be at our favorite race of the year. One of my goals for the future is to complete in the 250 with dogs that have been born to our kennel and trained by my family. I would love to do this race with my daughter running right along side me. Thank you to everyone who helps to make this race one we look forward to each year.

Bib Draw

Each race is limited to 30 teams. Rules were posted on October 4. Entry forms are posted on November 1. Applications received before the random drawing on Sunday, November 19, are treated as if they were all received on the day of the drawing. While encouraging early applications, this system also allows time for applicants to read the rules, fill out entry forms accurately and completely, and find a way to submit their applications by email, fax, snail mail, or other means. On November 19, the Can-Am Crown Directors meet for the initial drawing of bib numbers. For example, if 50 acceptable applications for a race have been received by that date, then there would be 50 numbers drawn for that race. Directors use a lottery ball machine to pick bib numbers as they go down the list of applicants. Bib numbers 1 through 30 become confirmed entrants. Numbers greater than 30 are put on the waiting list in the order drawn. After the drawing on November 19, numbers are assigned in the order that acceptable applications are received.
