I am a member of the Penobscot Nation. Growing up on the reservation, I always had a dog. I've been running sled dogs for a good twenty plus years, and I still feel like there is much to learn. My goal this year is to do a 250 mile camping trip, giving the dogs a good experience, and hopefully in the future to be more competitive.

I was born and raised in the Knik area outside of Wasilla, Alaska and have been behind a dog team since I was born. The biggest influences for my mushing are my late uncle and the Redington family in Alaska. I was a quiet kid, learning the ropes of mushing, not asking many questions, just listening to words of advice from the many mushers visiting the Redington home in Knik. I have served on the Iditarod's Board of Directors and as the IOFC president, I look forward to continuing being an advocate for the mushing lifestyle and the future of this sport. Moving from Alaska to Wisconsin fall of 2021. Looking forward to meeting all in the Lower 48 mushing communities and participating in this new racing circuit. When I'm not with my dog team I like to adventure, fish, hunt, build, and spend time with my wife Sophie and our son Mack.

Every year we strategically train our 30 dogs for mid-distance racing. I love to learn
each dog's personality; enjoying the challenges we face and the desire to improve
my training techniques. We are very lucky to live and work in the North Maine Woods.
Our seasonal job of guiding is our income, the raising of sled dog puppies is my passion.
Almost every dog in our kennel has been born and raised here. We believe the strong
connection between human and dog is very important. The Can-Am is both the dogs
and my favorite race each year. The trails are beautiful, the volunteers are abundant,
and the finish line is always rewarding. In the future I still plan in competing in the Iditarod
when the time is right

I've been racing for 18 years. What started out as a recreational hobby with rescue dogs soon became a complete addiction ESPECIALLY once I started doing distance.
In 2008 I danced with the grim reaper, I survived death and since then my focus is to LIVE and always do what I love to do. What keeps the fire in my soul, what makes me appreciate & love life are my dogs, our time together. Wether it's the 250 a 100 or training it's all about the care, love & bond that you have with each and everyone one on trail & off the trail. It's about being their provider, coach, nutritionist, behaviorist, doctor and mom! It's incredible to watch them grow into amazing athletes and know that you were the one to see the quality in them, to bring out the best in them to help them excel! It's not just about the training miles it's about enjoying the beauty of the trails and the team you've created! I REALLY look forward to this race BUT this year, this year now that we're local, after purchasing my home in Fort Kent last year, now that adds some serious kick a** energy to the excitement. This is gonna be a whole new, totally different epic story for us!

Hello, my name is Melody. I have been practicing the sport of sled dogs for 11 years. I've always had siberian huskies until three years ago.. I've been building my alaskan team for three years. I participated in my first race of 30miles/30miles in 2 step two years ago in order to do longer races. Given the health situation, I couldn't run last year like almost all runners. This year I would like to do the can am 100 with my dogs to learn more and have another great experience under my belt :) I have already come as a spectator to see this magnificent race two years ago and since then I have dreamed of being part of it.

Dog sledding started for me in 2013, that's also when a passion settled in. I entered my first two small sled races in 2014 and 2015, and that's when I really got the need for competition. The hard work, the hours spent taking care of my dogs gradually led me to proudly build a team for the race. In 2016, I started mid-distance racing . In 2017, I moved from the south shore of Montreal to Lac St-Jean with my dogs to really live my passion to the fullest. What I like most about dog sledding is sharing my life with my dogs, the freedom to travel the trails in symbiosis. It is a sport that requires a lot of time and passion. Since the beginning of it all , Canam 250 has been the ultimate dream and challenge !

I moved to Maine from Virginia almost 4 years ago now and the Can Am Crown 30 mile race was the first race I had ever run. It's my goal to do the 250 mile race next year, and my dream is to run the Iditarod someday.
I couldn't do all that I do without my family and close friends, they support and encourage me to follow my dreams even if they don't quite understand them, and I'm so thankful for that; but most importantly I wanted to thank my dogs. Without them I truly wouldn't have a purpose and I certainly wouldn't be where I'm at today!

Ten years ago this year, after a few years guiding sled dog tours, I picked up the first four dogs from a friend, a sprint musher Scott, who asked me what my plans are, if I was going to race. I said 'nah, I just want to run dogs.'
'Uh huh, ok' he said.
Sure enough, I signed up for a local race, and then after that put my name on the waitlist for the Can Am 30. I finished out of the money and near the bottom of the list, but the energy, the vast open forest, and the community of Can Am—I knew I'd be back.
Over the past 10 years I've raced all over New England and in the midwest, and the more races I run, the more I realize how special and unique Can Am is—a celebration of the Northern Maine woods and mountains, a challenging race like no other. Thank you to everyone who makes this race possible. I'm excited to run the 100 this year again, with some of the same team from 2020 with hopefully a few rising two year old stars.
Home is Shelburne NH where I live a non-traditional home life, with my disabled brother and sister, their caregivers, and my partner Chuck. For the fall and winter the dogs move to Upton, Maine for training, and for the past two years Brianna Boisselle has helped train the dogs—this year will be her first Can Am 30. I work for The Conservation Fund in NH and VT, a land and water conservation organization, spending my time working with private landowners and public agencies to create or add to conservation lands.
It's great to sign up for this race again—let's go Gemma!

been guiding since 1997 and have been enlightening people about the outdoors and
animal behavior ever since. I love seeing how the variety of genetics keep coming
out in the sled dog with each new generation, slightly different and also so similar

I've been involved in sled dog sport for approximately 20 years. Most of that time was in New Zealand competing in both sprint and mid distance races. We moved to the United States 3 years ago (along with 10 dogs), with both rebuilding our kennel and competing in several races in the North Eastern US. We moved to New Hampshire 18 months ago for better training conditions and to compete in mid distance races. Our goal is to enjoy spending time in nature with the dogs, with racing for us, being centered on the dogs having fun.

I started out with a team of four Siberians about five years ago to have a winter activity to do with my two children. For three years we came to watch the Can Am Crown (driving 3 hours and standing around in 30 below, even with broken legs, to watch the starts) and my kids kept saying 'mom, you should try'. So, in 2019 I adopted a couple veteran dogs from Ashley Patterson and Sally Manikian and ran the 30 mile race-- and finished middle of the pack! It was so exciting I decided I needed a couple more dogs, and here I am back again! Thank you to the musher mentors and friends I've made through this great sport. I appreciate all the advice and support, including late night messages about whelping! Also thanks to my family for kennel building and chore help!

Born in the Ottawa Valley of settler Hungarian, British, and other mixed ancestry, Amanda Hutter happily confesses that she is a "Mutt who exists between many ancestral lines, without ever belonging to one." She credits her parents above all with who she is. She grew up in the Huron Fringe woodlands of Lake Huron, exploring ecosystems from her family's dogsled, canoe, or using her two feet and a heart-beat. Working on and with land is her passion.
She was born into dogsledding and fortunately has over 35 years experience in distance and sprint running, alongside her father, Victor Hutter of Tokamak Kennels, mostly on the recreational side. In that time, pressures like climate change, animal welfare and health, and many changes in the sport have resulted in a unique operation for Amanda. Her operation only owns two dogs. All of her dogs have their own families that they live with when they are not out on the trails. She works closely with each dog owner to ensure that dogs are treated both as an athlete and a family member. She likes to say that she is the equivalent of the fun aunt that brings the high energy nieces and nephews out for adventures to give their parents a break. After runs, each and every dog goes back home to their families and lives the happy normal life of a spoiled pet.
She holds a BA in Anthropology from Waterloo, Environmental Techniques from Georgian College, Environmental Conservation from Guelph, Masters in from University of Guelph and began her MSc of Natural Resources Management at Lakehead, which she happily put on hold to become a mother. Between schooling, she worked in environmental stewardship roles often between the spectrum of Land Management and Indigenous Food Security. This brought her to work in Honduras, Peru, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Cuba as well as from New Brunswick to BC, all the way across Canada. She has supported the structural, planning, management, research or labor work of over 30+ different organizations throughout this time until she decided to begin her own Environmental Enterprise in 2012.
She now holds the position of CEO and Founder at her own company called 'Green Feet Ecosystem Services', which provides aerial imaging and analysis, environmental project support, and seasonal services - including dogsledding to take people out to enjoy the experience of travelling lightly on the land by dogsled. She doesn't do any of her work alone and is accompanied at the race by a group of relentlessly encouraging seasoned racers who she credits the smile on her face to.

I was born into running dogs and my mom Maureen put me on a pair of runners as soon as I could stand. I started my 1 dog junior with Shania and Kube. Worked my way up to running open size teams for sprint and mid distance races. I am pushing myself with this 30 miler so it'll be a new goal. I am from Bow, NH which is 7 plus hours away, but I've always dreamed of doing this race. I cam ein 2019 to run the skijor race. Here I am to run the 30. I work 2 jobs along with running my own photograph & graphic design on the side. Balancing all that, family time, my relationship, training dogs, and working my barrel racing horse - you could say I live off of iced coffee and chocolate croissants. I love hiking, fishing, skiing, nature walks, and my photography. I had to take a couple years off from racing to finish 2 college degrees in exercise science and business while battling a liver disease for a year and a half. I am 100% healthy now and ready to rumble down the trail with my team. Thank You to all the support we've had, sponsors, and well wishes. I wouldn't be where I am today without my mom Maureen, my boyfriend Mark, and our long time family friend and handler Fayth Weed. Team Skookum is a childhood dream come true. This dream led me to the Yukon in the late 90's. Decades later, and now living on the banks of the Saint John River our family has made that dream a reality. Although we are truly a recreational kennel, this will be our first event racing as a team and are looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones. All our Siberians are brothers and sisters with Willy, our black and white leader a cousin to the pack. Our main goal is to have fun on the trails and enjoy the scenery along the way. Thank you all for hosting such a great event and coming out!
